Kadomatsu
Kadomatsu ("gate pine") are New Year decorations, temporary abodes for the gods that come to visit. They are always placed in pairs at the main entrance to a residence or business establishment, and they may be simple pine branches tied to a gate or may be much more elaborate and expensive arrangements containing pine, bamboo, and plum blossoms in front of a business.
